Senior Communications Officer who also operates as Deputy Director, leading strategic communications across all four stages of Comprehensive Disaster Management.
Jacob Munakwa Ngumbah is the Senior Communications Officer and also operates as Deputy Director at the Nevis Disaster Management Department. Through his work, Ngumbah has developed numerous strategic communications plans across the four major stages of Comprehensive Disaster Management — preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery / rehabilitation.
One of his signature initiatives is a natural-hazard awareness campaign strategically targeting schools, churches, business organisations, government departments and sport groups. He is also the motivator in the formation of the association of Parish-based Disaster Communicators for the five parishes in Nevis. He is the front person in the creation of the Audio Visual Studio and Print Design for the NDMD Communications Unit.
Ngumbah authored a chapter in the book "West Indies Health Care and Disaster Preparedness" (University of Virginia, 2015). Over the years he has collaborated with organisations including USAID, OAS, CDEMA, OECS, UNESCO, UNICEF, PAHO, UNISDR, and the Universities of Virginia and Northern Colorado.
He is trained across Planning; Project Management (IT); Journalism and Mass Communications; Disaster Risk Reduction Leadership and Policies; Strategic Christian Ministry; Classical Piano and Sound Engineering; Intellectual Property; and Supervisory Management.
