Organization Overview

A Central Pillar of National Safety

Established under the National Disaster Management framework, NDMD serves as the primary coordination body for disaster risk reduction in Nevis. The department takes a broad perspective on enhancing Disaster Risk Management and strengthening resilience across all levels — using creative solutions and effective communication strategies to reach current and new audiences.

The NDMD also serves as the official channel through which general information and Disaster Risk Reduction messages are disseminated. Our partnership and collaboration with stakeholders play a pivotal role in producing multimedia content for our 12-month multi-hazard awareness campaign.

Inter-Agency Coordination

We bridge the gap between emergency services, government ministries and non-governmental organisations to ensure a unified response to any crisis — from hurricanes to seismic activity.

Global Standards

Aligning with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, we implement international best practices tailored to the unique topographical and climatic needs of our island.

Early Warning Systems

Our monitoring systems provide real-time data and alerts, enabling proactive evacuation and preparation before hazards escalate into disasters.

Professional Training

We conduct regular workshops and certifications for community responders, so that every village in Nevis has the knowledge to survive and thrive.
