Community Liaison Officer — known across Nevis as 'Parpa' — coordinating District Disaster Committees and the CERT programme.
Having spent four years as a Senior Labour Officer within the Department of Labour on Nevis, Winston 'Parpa' Parris joined the Nevis Disaster Management Department. He assumed his substantive post of Community Liaison Officer upon joining the team in May 2015.
Mr. Parris brings a wealth of community working knowledge to the post he now holds. As a Community Liaison Officer, Parpa is responsible for a wide range of community activities — including coordinating the District Disaster / Emergency Committees, coordinating Disaster Risk Reduction activities within communities and schools, establishing new Disaster / Emergency Committees, and providing coordination, support and assistance for the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) programme.
Mr. Parris has organised, and continues to organise, important training sessions for members of the communities which he serves.
