It is indeed an honour to have you visit and peruse the official website of the Nevis Disaster Management Department (NDMD).
Of course, living in paradise is a wonderful thing — however, this privilege has inherent challenges, as our way of life can be instantaneously disrupted when our region is impacted by the many hazards that affect us. This website was designed to raise awareness of hazards and how people should be involved in Comprehensive Disaster Management. While here, you can learn how individuals, families and communities become resilient to the impact of hazards that may affect our region.
Forging partnerships with a wide cross-section of our community enables our department to build and strengthen capacity at all levels and to enhance resilience against all hazards. Several initiatives have been introduced to stimulate a participatory approach in disaster risk reduction (DRR). This permits the transfer of knowledge and exchange of experiences from the elder statesmen and women to the younger generations in our society. Our focus on community resilience encourages dialogue and provides valuable resources for public awareness, education and informed decision-making.
Special thanks is extended to our volunteers, stakeholders and sponsors that have supported our journey to resilience. Once again, it's a pleasure to have you visit, and we hope you find the experience informative, interesting and enjoyable.
We do welcome your participation in our planned events and exciting programmes.
